Maisy came to us early this summer from a severe n Maisy came to us early this summer from a severe neglect case, along with four goats, all in terrible condition. When she came into our care, her hooves were cracked all the way to the skin from years of neglect. This caused chronic arthritis, pain, and lameness, all of which was treated with pain medication and long-term hoof care from Chris the Farrier. Maisy also had cancerous melanoma that progressed quickly in the last few months and ultimately was why she had to be euthanized.

Euthanasia roughly translates to “a good death” and is “the practice of intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering.” We are a no-kill shelter, but will always put the quality of life of our animals first. Sometimes - as in Maisy’s case - an animal is in terminal pain and there is no chance of recovery for them. At this point we will make the difficult but humane decision to end their suffering, with compassion and respect.

Despite the pain, in her time with us Maisy was extremely loving & friendly, a favorite among our volunteers. All five of the animals from this case received individualized medical care, and three of the goats have been adopted to fabulous homes. Dane, the biggest goat we've ever seen, was Maisy's best friend - he now spends his days enjoying the company of Diva the horse and Starlight the donkey.
Meet Brodie.... He was surrendered to CVAR after a Meet Brodie.... He was surrendered to CVAR after a dog attack left his jaw and eyes, severely injured.
In the months that he's been with us, Brodie has come a long way in his healing. He is currently blind - but his eyes are responding to light and shadows. We are not sure what the long term outcome will be for his vision, but we will do everything in our power to provide the treatment and care needed for the best possible outcome, and to find him a loving forever home when he is ready to be adopted.

Please consider donating to Center Valley Animal Rescue this holiday season to support the medical care of animals like Brodie.

The hard work pays off! This Great Horned Owl wa The hard work pays off!

This Great Horned Owl was found starving and unable to fly, in a local backyard. Upon intake and exam it was found to be very weak and dehydrated, but with out serious injuries. The owl was in rehab at CVAR for about 3 weeks building up it's strength, weight and conditioning.

We were thrilled to succesfully release it back on the property where it was first found.

Meet two special CVAR ladies - Calista & Melody! Meet two special CVAR ladies - Calista & Melody!

Calista has been with us for many years and is the matriarch of the Senior Room. She spends her days getting love from our volunteers (especially Steve B.) and lounging on her own personal shelf. You can often find her curled up with her best friend Louise.

Melody is one of our FIV+ cats and came to us from a hoarding case. She has had trouble finding the right home, but loves it here at CVAR.

Turbo came to us this summer after he was hit by a car and left in critical condition. After a great deal of medical care, including leg and chest surgery, and nursing (he lived with our veterinary interns for a good part of the summer), Turbo is back to living his best life in the sun. As his bio in room 3 reads “no tail, sweet & playful as kitten!” Find out more about Turbo and all of our adoptable cats on our website - link in bio

Meet Rosie, the angelic herd guardian of Timmys ba Meet Rosie, the angelic herd guardian of Timmys barn. This beautiful and affectionate girl, came our way last summer from a large farm animal neglect case. She has since made her way into the hearts and ear scratching hands, of everyone who works with her. Having spent her entire life living outside with the sheep, she wasn’t happy when we initially housed her inside with the other dogs. Since her move out to the barn, with her favorite sheep, she is in her element and couldn’t be more content. Rosie is up for adoption to a very special and specific type of home. Check out our Petfinder page to find out more about Rosie and all of the adoptable animals at CVAR.

For the first time ever; CVAR had an animal check For the first time ever; CVAR had an animal check itself into rehab!

In early October an emaciated young cougar took shelter in an open wildlife pen in CVAR's wildlife facility. She was so fragile and thin, Sara assumes that she was looking for a place to die. Alexx, our animal caretaker, happened to be cleaning out the enclosure and was startled, to say the least, when he woke her up!

After 2 weeks of treatment and feeding, Sara was able to dart and sedate the cougar for a full exam. Sara and Dr. Christine, one of CVAR's volunteer veterinarians, who works for Fish & Wildlife, were able to administer meds, get X Rays and run blood work. The cougar showed no signs of injury or poisoning. We believe her mother was killed about 6 weeks earlier and this cub was simply too young (estimated 10 months) to be on her own. [Cougars stay with their mothers for the first 1.5 - 3 years of their lives, while they become self-sufficient.]

Cougars are not allowed to be rehabilitated for many reasons - They cannot learn how to hunt in captivity, which is vital to their survival in the wild. They also pose a huge threat to caretakers during rehab and future humans they may come in contact with, if released, once they loose any fear of people or associate people with feeding... Because this cougar is under a year old, Sara was able to work with the state and find it placement at the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas. Otherwise it would have had to be euthanized.

After an early flight and a long journey to her new home in Texas, she is doing well continuing her recovery. She will be a companion to another female cougar who is the same age. Cameron Park is a " natural habitat zoo" and provides "animal welfare centered" care to its residents. We are happy to have assisted in the recovery of this beautiful animal and wish her the best in her new life in Texas.
